Children are rewarding, stimulating, and fun, but looking after them can be stressful and challenging. This 11- week Nurturing programme encourages couples, fathers, foster carers, grandparents and those who have a kinship to attend. The topics offered help to deal with challenges so that you can have a calmer, happier life. It is a cognitive-relational programme, that provides parents with new skills in listening and communicating with their children and developing an understanding of behaviour in the context of relationships. The programme is offered ongoing and can be offered in other languages.
We offer a shorter version of a 5-week programme to understand parenting in Islam, and it’s link to the Nurturing Programme that promotes emotional health, relationship skills and positive behaviour management strategies for Muslim parents/ carers. It draws on extracts from the Quran and sayings (Hadiths) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to demonstrate how Islamic religious values complement the Parenting Puzzle. The programme is offered ongoing English, Urdu, Punjabi, and Somali for women only (for men who wish to attend, kindly request).
This 7-week programme is to help parents & carers understand teenage behaviour and development. Recent research in brain development helps parents to understand the challenges they face and develop a positive parenting attitude and style. It looks at how to improve communications, handle difficult issues, put rules and boundaries in place, respond positively, and resolve conflicts and problems. The programme is offered ongoing, please click here to read more.
Raising children can be puzzling at times, but puzzles have solutions—and the Parenting Puzzle provides them. This 5-week workshop encourages parents/ carers of children under 5 years old to enjoy bringing up children and get the best out of family life. It offers positive, practical ways of guiding children, so they learn to handle both their feelings and their behaviour. The course is informal, fun, and a great confidence booster! This programme is open to all communities ongoing in English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, and Somali (other languages upon request).
We offer 11 weeks and a shorter version of the Family links model for all communities, in particular, parents/Carers who have mental health, additional needs, or learning difficulties. This is a 7-week workshop that addresses a basic understanding of what additional needs are and what support is available within the community. Parents and carers will have an opportunity to begin to understand ADHD, ASD, and other sensory, physical & learning difficulties. The workshops will help to build a foundation of understanding children’s development, feelings, and behaviour and how to use different approaches to discipline using empathy.
Play is children’s way of exploring the world, communicating feelings, getting close to those they care about, working through stressful situations, and simply blowing off steam. That’s why “playful parenting” is so important and so successful in building strong, close bonds between parents and children. Through play, we join our kids in their world and help them to master many skills and knowledge. Those early beginnings are so crucial to understand, so come along and join us for a fun-packed 4-week Playful Parenting Workshops. You're not just learning, but learning to enjoy playing too! The workshops are open to all communities ongoing!
Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) is a 13-week course run by two trained facilitators for 3 hours each week, in different languages. It is for parents & carers with children between the ages of 3-16 years. If you are concerned they are drifting into anti-social behaviour/offending behaviour or at risk of escalation into specialist services, this course is for you! The programme is open to all communities and can also be offered in English.
Improvemen is a self-awareness group programme for all communities.
